The city of Armidale is located in the New England Regional of NSW and well known for its historical buildings, beautiful countryside and educational facilities. There are several private and public schools in Armidale plus the University of New England which offers a huge range of courses attracting international students.

We have visited this beautiful place on many occasions as we have family in the area. Armidale is particularly beautiful during autumn with trees lining the streets changing colours - brilliant reds and oranges. Armidale has a huge range of accommodation - something to suit everyone:

  • guest houses - some housed in historic buildings
  • cottages
  • hotels and motels
  • country retreats
  • self-catering apartments
  • B&B's
  • farm stays
  • camping in one of the National Parks
  • East Kunderang Homestead Oxley Wild Rivers National Park - this beautiful old homestead sleeps about 14 people and we have stayed here on a number of occasions - you need to take all your food and drink - a 4WD is advisable
  • caravan parks - we have stayed at the Hylander Van Village - a lovely spot close to the highway

The region around Armidale has a number of spectacular waterfalls, gorges and world-heritage national parks where you can canyoning, mountain biking, bird watching, trout fishing, bush walking etc. There are some great cafes in town and range of good restaurants - not to mention good shopping outlets.

As you can see this is a one-stop place for a very interesting holiday. Be warned that Armidale can be very cold during winter.
