The City of Bathurst is west of Sydney over the Blue Mountains in central NSW. This is a great place to visit with lots to see and do - why not take a spin around the famous Mount Panorama racing circuit. We drove around here towing our caravan which was very interesting - I had to keep jumping out, run ahead and take photos of the van going past.

The streets in the main part of town are very wide and have light poles down the centre of the road - quite unusual. There are many historic buildings in Bathurst (look out for the courthouse) - it is the oldest inland city in Australia. The Visitor Information Centre is located on the main highway through town and this has a great display of iconic items from around the area - get all the information you need about the sights, and select from the huge range of locally made products. The cafe next door is worth visiting as they serve a great lunch - called Absolutely Delicious.

Another great place to eat in town is Venue Café & Bar located at the entrance to the Bathurst City Shopping Centre - on Howick Street. I have eaten here on many occasions - the meals are delicious (generous portions) and the coffee is good. They have indoor or outdoor seating and it is very popular with the locals for lunch. Venue is open seven days a week and have a great selection of goodies - even serving an all day breakfast - try a takeaway Jumbo Breaky Roll (Yum).  The head chef does a great job.

Bathurst can be very cold in winter and hot in summer - take a jumper whenever you visit as I have known it to snow on Christmas eve. Surrounded by farmland and rolling hills, the views from the top of Mount Panorama need to be seen to be believed - especially after rain.

I would also recommend a visit to the Jack Duggans Irish Pub, a great place to meet some locals and the restaurant has awesome food. I agree about the jumper advice, I am often surprised how cold it is in Bathurst when I visit.
