During our recent visit to Burrill Lakes (south of Ulladulla) on the south coast of NSW we spent an afternoon exploring Meroo National Park.  First stop was to view the Burrill Lake Rock Shelter which can be accessed via Wyomig Avenue.  This is an important part of local Aboriginal history which was first occupied over 20, 000 years ago. The track is well shaded and information signs at the shelter explain the significance of this site

After visitying the rock shelter we headed back to the car and undertook an interesting drive into Meroo National Park following several of the dirt tracks. There are lovely picnic spots along the foreshore of Burrill Lake and some great fishing locations.  The road is OK but I would recommend a 4wd to make life easier.

Meroo National Park is not far from Ulladulla and Bateman's Bay, and, as well as fishing, is also popular for bush walking, swimming, paddling, bird watching, and cycling. There seem to be a number of relatively new areas created on the foreshore of the lake to relax and enjoy a secluded spot with family and friends.  I am not sure weather you are still allowed to camp in this National Park so best to check with the Visitor Information Centre in Ulladulla or National Parks and Wildlife Services.

The waters are very clear and we spoke to one local man fishing in the Park who told us that he would normally catch something for dinner. We enjoyed our afternoon at Meroo National Park and hope to return soon.
