Corowa is a town in the state of New South Wales in Australia. It is on the bank of the Murray River, the border between New South Wales and Victoria, opposite the Victorian town of Wahgunyah. Corowa is the administrative centre of Corowa Shire. The name could have derived from an Aboriginal word referring to the curra pine which yielded gum used by Aborigines to fasten the heads of spears to the shafts. Another translation is rocky river.

During our caravan trip along the Murray River we stopped for lunch at Corowa and had a look a quick look around this lovely country town in NSW. First stop was the Corowa Golf Club - one of the recommended courses to visit when playing golf along the Murray. This is a 27 hole championship golf course in a bush land setting with large club house and motel accommodation.

It is lovely driving down the main street of Corowa which is full of shade trees, gardens and historic buildings. It is suggested that visitors take a look at the Corowa Federation Museum and find out about the town's role during Federation in Australia. You can collect a map from the Visitor Information Centre outlining self guided walks around town.

One thing we noticed while eating our lunch near the Civic Centre (Visitor Information) was the large range of sporting fields in town - swimming pool, oval, bowling greens, tennis courts as well as golf course mentioned above. You can even take a glider flight or go skydiving in Corowa.

Corowa is only about three hours drive from Melbourne or four hours from Canberra and centrally located on the Murray River to places like Rutherglen (Wine Growing) and Yarrawonga/Mulwalla (water sports). Of course the Mightly Murray is popular with holiday makers for shaded picnic spots, bush walking, fishing, swimming and watersports etc.
