Tocumwal is on the NSW side of the Murray River about 140 kilometres west of Albury/Wadonga. This is a lovely little town with a visitor information centre located on Deniliquin Road near Tocumwal's Big Murray Cod on the foreshore of the Murray River. This Visitor Information Centre was staffed by volunteers who were more than happy to have a chat and pass on some local knowledge about points of interest in town.

Tocumwal has a 36 hole championship golf course which is one of the major golf club along the Murray River. There are several caravan parks -

  • Top Tourist (larger with nice cabins, shaded pool, shady trees, nice entrance and a dump point)
  • Big4 (small with plenty of grass and covered pool)
  • Sportaviation and Caravan Park on Babington Road - you can take a flight over the Murray River  or learn to glide  - all at the one locations
  • Bushlands on the Murray along Bushlands Road  - cafe on site and situated on the river
  • Time Out Holiday Park - on Bridge Street with a boat ramp for river access.

There is a $5 campsite called town beach on the river with toilets and cold showers (apparently one of the caravan parks allows you to have a shower for a small fee (according to the ladies at the visitor Information Centre)).

This part of the Murray River has sandy beaches which makes it very popular for camping, swimming, fishing and boating. There are some lovely old buildings in town and an old pub in main street which has a great beer garden overlooking the road - full of palm trees. Walking and cycling tracks allow you to wander past historical buildings and enjoy the natural beauty of the Mighty Murray.
