SUPing at Lawn Hill Gorge - Adels Grove

Lawn Hill NP and gorge is an easy 10 km drive from Adels Grove, our base camp. We headed off with the Fanatic Falcon Air SUP partially inflated and tied to the roof, ready for action. From the Lawn Hill NP car park it was only a short walk to the canoe hire area, from where we headed off.

The gorge has two sections, separated by some waterfalls and a short walk. The top section narrows about half way, where the water current becomes quite strong. The Fanatic SUP handled the conditions perfectly. Much easier than the canoe we hired!

The gorge is fed by natural springs which provide a surprising high volume of water. The upper reaches of the gorge finishes with a small beach surrounded by a number of fast flowing creeks fed by the groundwater. The Fanatic SUP easily navigated the stronger currents and was able to find the beach with ease.

We all took turns on the SUP, taking advantage of the SUP's maneuverability to explore the gorge's every changing shoreline. The SUP enabled us to get really close to amazing rock formations, bird life and vegetation.

A variety of fish species inhabit to gorge, many of which we were able to clearly see from the high viewpoint, standing on the SUP. Unfortunately missed by those in the canoe!

Thank you to Fanatic and their inflatable SUP which made exploring this amazing area an absolute pleasure and a experience we will never forget.

RvTrips' review

25 Oct 2015

This year we had 3 members of the RvTrips team visit Lawn Hill National Park. Exploring the Lawn Hill Gorge on a SUP has been a dream of ours since our initial visit last year. Thankfully, Fanatic provided a 12' 6" Falcon Air inflatable SUP for this journey and we couldn't wait to test it out in this truly iconic outback destination.

Two team members paddled a hire canoe up the gorge while the other enjoyed the SUP. We all agreed after our morning on the water, it was a lot easier paddling the SUP, than the canoe. We all wanted to be on the SUP, so we took turns!

Apart from the padding ease, we all saw a lot more marine life from the SUP and were able to get really close to the rock formations which form the gorge. The SUP provided a completely different perspective to the gorge, a more natural, peaceful and rewarding experience.

SUPing in the outback is definitely worthwhile and very rewarding.
