RvTrips' review

13 Aug 2015

While staying in Georgetown, Queensland we called in to the TerrEstrial Information Centre located in Low Street - what a great building. This is a must when you are in the area - not only is it a Visitor Information Centre, Council Library and Internet Café, but it also houses the amazing Ted Elliott Mineral Collection.

This Collection comprises a huge number of specimens displayed in at least nine themed rooms. The specimens were collected by Ted Elliott over many years and come from around the world. He was considered quite an expert in identifying rocks and minerals and this is believed to be the biggest private collection in Australia. It only cost $8 each to look through this display - well worth it in my opinion. Souvenirs and mineral specimens are available for sale - we purchased the full colour book on the collection.

The TerrEstrial Information Centre is staffed by really friendly, knowledgeable locals who were most helpful, providing information about our trip to Flat Creek Station the next day. The staff can also tell you about the road condition, what to see & do, where you can camp, maps of the region, and take bookings for some of the local attractions. I think this was one of the friendliest and most welcoming places we have visited during our trip around outback Queensland.
