Kingaroy lies in the South Burnett Region of Queensland and is about 220 kilometres north west of Brisbane. This place is probably best known as the home of Joh Bjelkie Peterson who was premier of Queensland for many years, and, of course, a large peanut growing area.

We stayed at the Kingaroy Holiday Park which was a BIG4 caravan park on the highway as you drive into town from the south. Be aware of the metal ramp across the deep gutter to drive into the park itself  – you need to have the van straight and wheels following so you don't off the edge. Our site was deep enough to stay hooked onto car. One of the ladies amenities had been fully renovated and looks great with corrugated Iron walls and facts about Joh Bjelkie Peterson on the back of toilet doors.

Looked around Kingaroy before heading north, and, of course, stopped at the peanut van for a supply of fresh peanuts - they come in all flavours and you are able to taste before you buy.  The Visitor Information Centre can be found on Haly Street which has a museum attached that tells you about the history of growing peanuts in the area. Very interesting to learn about how they are harvested. Staff at information centre were very helpful, and there are a range of of great locally made products for sale.
