Richmond is a small town on the Flinders Highway between Hughenden and Julia Creek. We stopped at Richmond for lunch and to take a look at the information centre and museum - Kronosaurus Korner. This area was once covered by an Inland Sea and the museum has a very interesting collection of skeletal and fossil remains of prehistoric animals. One skeleton is 98% of the dinosaur (quite unusual to have discovered so much of one animal) and is displayed in a glass case in a climate controlled room.

Minmi - a small dinosaur was found with some of the skin and protective armour preserved - another unusual find. They think the animal was dehydrated before death and the skin stuck to the bone before being fossilised - therefore the skin did not rot away. It is well worth a few hours to stop and look at this great museum in the middle of Queensland. I had to smile at the signs on the toilet doors outside the information centre  - PREHISTORIC and PREHERSTORIC with the wording printed in the shape of a dinosaur bone.

Richmond has nice wide streets lined with beautiful bougainvilleas. We parked beside Lake Fred Tritton to eat our lunch at the shaded picnic tables. This is a recreational lake used for water skiing, picnics and walks. The Richmond Community Bush Tucker Garden, has been created along the walking path around the lake and it full of beautiful native plants. There is a caravan park on the edge of the lake and this seems to be quite good with a number of sites overlooking the water.
