Berri is a lovely little town in the Riverland area of South Australia - about two and a half hours drive east of Adelaide. It is situated on the banks of the Murray River with lovely gardens and parklands created along the foreshore. We were staying in Renmark and drove to Berri for the day to catch up with friends and visit some of the local wineries. We travelled through the small community of Lyrup which meant another trip across the Murray on a Ferry - we love this feature of the roads in South Australia (24 hour ferry services to get from one side of the river to the other).

The Visitor Information Centre is on Riverview Drive and built on the banks of the River. Beautiful walking/cycling paths along the foreshore through well maintained parkland areas with a number of picnic spots. Of course you can hire a houseboat for a trip along the Murray and a range of these were parked along the river at Berri. The centre of town has colourful gardens created on the median strips which made a lovely entrance into the main streets.

We visited the Berri Riverside Caravan Park just down the road from the Visitor Information Centre - a lovely large park which is very neat and tidy (walking distance to town). We had lunch at the Berri Hotel and enjoyed eating in the upstairs dining room overlooking the river - great vegetarian pizza.

There are plenty of things to do in the Riverland - water sports, fishing, walking trails, bird watching, wineries, golf courses, shopping or visit some of the many historical (stone) buildings. Berri is a great holiday base in South Australia and I look forward to visiting again when I have more time to stay.
