Port Germein is a small town on the shores of Spencer Gulf - about 69 kilometres south of Port Augusta.  We arrived at Port Germein via the Port Germein Gorge – a narrow passage running through the Flinders Ranges.  Beautiful scenery in this gorge as you drive past magnificent gum trees, narrow creeks, stone walls and spectacular rock faces - I just wished we were not towing the caravan as there are lots of S bends which are a bit scary when you have two and a half tonne behind the car. The road is the main connection through the Ranges between Port Germein and Murray Town and is used by about 190 cars per day.

Port Germein is home to a wooden jetty that was once 1.7 kilometres in length and the longest in the southern hemisphere. It was extremely windy during our visit so we did not venture too far - some of the structures that were once on the jetty have been moved to the shoreline and labelled for visitors – eg clock face tidal indicator, lighthouse etc.

This is a lovely foreshore with well maintained gardens, children’s playground, picnic tables and public toilets. The Port Germein Caravan Park is a community owned and operated park across the road from the water- L-shaped with back of the park leading into the bowling club.  The streets around the main part of town are very wide, clean and tidy.
