Port Pirie is an industrial city in South Australia situated on the shores of Spencer Gulf about 92 kilometres south of Port Augusta.  We stopped to have a quick look around on our way to the Yorke Peninsula from Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges. We arrived via Port Germein Gorge through the Flinders ranges - beautiful scenery but a bit scary when towing a caravan.

This is a very busy place and our main aim while in the area was to look at the Port Pirie Beach Caravan Park - a large welcoming park on the banks of the Port Pirie River. The Port Pirie regional Tourism and Arts Centre can be found on  Mary Elie Street (Phone: 1800 000 424). Here you will find Shakka the Shark which is the longest Great White ever landed in South Australian waters - huge.

We have found some beautiful old stone buildings in many places while travelling around South Australia - Port Pirie is no exception (check out the old Railway station).
