Tailem Bend, as the name suggests, is located at a bend in the Murray River - about an hour from Adelaide on the Princess Highway and close to the junction of Dukes Highway (leading to Melbourne) and Malee Highway heading east towards Sydney. This is a nice looking country town with most facilities.

As we headed into Tailem Bend from the south we saw the signs for a dump point on the edge of town located in a parking area that also affords great photographic opportunities of the river and farm flats on the opposite side. This is a large parking area with a water tank beside the dump point – flow was very slow so you may need to use a bottle of water from the car. Not as clean as other dump points we have seen but very convenient.

This town has a very large service station on the highway.  A couple of blocks from the main road is the centre of town which is opposite a lovely park with children’s playground, public toilets, picnic tables etc. The Visitor Information Centre is located within this parkland and housed in what appears to be an old Railway Station.  Beautiful building and lots of parking – nice feel.

On the outskirts of town is the Rivers Edge Caravan Park (located beside a service station). This appears to be quite large and runs along the river with lots of large trees for shade. There is easy access from the highway – clearly signposted. The park looks a bit ordinary from the road but may be more welcoming beside the river.

A few kilometres from town is the Pioneer Village of Old Tailem Town with lots of historic buildings to wander through. Just beyond Old Tailem Town is Westbrook Farm Caravan Park which is privately owned.  This is also on the River and looks like a nice area to stop.
