We have visited Echuca a couple of times and enjoy walking or riding around this lovely old town on the Murray River in Victoria. On our first visit we stayed in a lovely cottage close to town with members of my family which was in a great central. It is very easy to walk around and visit places like the Holden Museum, Beechworth Bakery and the historic Port of Echuca. We also enjoyed several meals at clubs around the area and even won a raffle at the Moama Bowling Club (most clubs offer a courtesy bus service). Of course we took a ride in one of the old paddlesteamers along the Murray River - great fun and highly recommended while visiting Echuca.

During our last visit we stayed at the Echuca Holiday Park in our caravan and enjoyed exploring the town further on our push bikes. Of course your first stop should be the Visitor Information Centre (near the Bridge in the old pump building) and pick up a map of the area. We also rode across the bridge to Moama.

The Port district is full of old buildings that house restaurants, cafes, gift shops etc - this has a old country feel with large verandahs and original shop fronts. Echuca is a very popular weekend and holiday destination that is only about two and a half hours drive from Melbourne.  It is definitely worth a visit when travelling through Victoria and find out about the historical importance of the Murray River to our pioneering ancestors.
