The twin towns of Dongara-Port Denison are located on the West Australian Coast about 66 kilometres south of Geraldton. This is a small place with lots of historic buildings in the centre of town and is best known for Lobster fishing and export. We were lucky enough be in visiting this part of the state during the Larry Lobster Festival held in November each year. The Larry Lobster Festival has a huge range of markets, food stalls, amusement for the children, entertainment, fireworks and of course the blessing of the fleet. You can also view the processing plant and take a tour on board one of the lobster fishing vessels. This is a huge community event with lots happening all day.

It is very windy in this part of Australia as can be seen by the trees just north of Dongara and we decided to stay at  Dongara Tourist Park (Top Tourist) which had a number of protected sites. This Park was also conveniently located within walking distance of the Larry Lobster Festival.

Dongara bakery had been recommended to us as one of the best bakers in West Australia so we headed out for morning tea. We were not disappointed and enjoyed a great sausage roll (best we had eaten) and a vegetable pastie which was delicious (jam packed with ingredients and very filling). The pies look so good we purchased some for a future meal - again yum.

Dongara-Port Denison have some beautiful Moreton Bay Fig Trees around the older parts of town and is very popular for beach holidays with fishing and boating major attractions.
