Geikie Gorge National Park is 20 kilometres from Fitzroy Crossing in the Kimberley Region of Western Australia. The Gorge is reached via a sealed road which is in relatively good condition. Departure times for the Geikie Gorge River Cruise vary throughout the season so check with the Fitzroy Crossing Visitor Centre. Our tour departed at 9:30 am - there is no need to book just travel the park and pay cash to the rangers for the one hour cruise. Toilets and picnic tables are available near the car parking area. Note - the boat was uncovered so it is important to take a hat.

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the area, pointing out a number of interesting sights - crocodile nesting areas, and cave formations created by flood waters and their affect on the limestone. This Gorge was apparently once part of an underwater reef which explains the type of rock found in the National Park. We saw a couple of small crocodiles and a water monitor - type of goanna. Water monitors  are apparently very susceptible to the cane toad so the rangers are working hard to keep the toads out of Geikie Gorge National Park.

We really enjoyed our cruise and found Geikie Gorge very interesting and beautiful. You can also cruise Geikie Gorge on a two hour cultural tour, conducted by the local indigenous people of the area - The Aboriginal Heritage Tour.
